A fast and physical encounter saw St Judes run out comfortable victors in the Wigan local derby. Two mistake cost St Pats dear as firstly Eugene Swift (with an 80 metre solo effort) and inspirational Shaun Hilton score tries both converted by Scott Robinson gave St Judes a 12-0 half time lead. Despite the effort of the St Pats pack the pressure was not turned to points and Judes were next on the score sheet after half time following some crisp handling from Gavin Corfield to put Paul Pendlebury in at the corner, agian goaled by Robinson to open up an 18 point lead. St Pats efforts were rewarded with an Anthony Atherton try goaled by Schofield which only served to inspire Judes to push on and further tries from Corfield and Man Of The Match Pendlebury put the game out of sight, Robinson converting the later of the two.

LEIGH Rientoul led the scoring with a hat-trick as York Acorn continued their wonderful start to life in amateur rugby league’s elite tier with a 50-24 win at Thornhill Trojans.
Last night’s victory made it two wins out of two, and 88 points scored, following the Blue and Golds’ promotion to the National Conference League premier division and their opening day win over Wigan St Patrick’s on Saturday.
Boss Alfie Hill was delighted with his side’s efforts. “That’s two good performances and 88 points,” he said. “You must be playing some good rugby league to do that at this level.”
However, he had a word of warning after seeing his side concede two converted tries at the back end of each half, both times when they seemed to be in control.
“Okay, we were ahead (in the first half) and the game was won by then (the end of the second half), but it won’t always be like that,” he said.
Rientoul led the way in his first start of the season having been a substitute on Saturday. He started on the wing last night as Joe Budd was out with a leg injury, with Jonny Liddell also coming into the team having been unavailable on Saturday.
He was set to begin on the bench but Darren Callaghan was given a breather at the start after a long day at work – and the move paid off. Liddell helped to glean control at hooker, while Callaghan came on at loose-forward, later playing at stand-off, and scored one of Acorn’s ten tries.
Recent signing Ben Jones, the former New Earswick All Blacks and Hunslet Hawks player, also scored a brace after entering the fray at centre, while other try-scorers were winger Steve Mackley, second-row Mike Embleton, veteran centre Ian Brown, and prop Danny Caldwell. Liddell kicked five goals.
Hill added: “We were 22-0 up in the first half but took our foot off the gas and they scored two converted tries before half-time. We eased our way into the second half and took ten minutes to get going, but from 50 to 65 minutes we went from 22 points to 46 with some fantastic rugby. We got another try to make it 50-12 though we let them score two tries near the end.”
